Seem to be more dangerous then griz because they are larger in number and widely distributed but they also are more likely to start eating you. The advice they give for what to do in an encounter should stress having bear spray handy. If a bear approaches you in any fashion, not just charging, spray with the stuff to teach them that they don;t want to mess with you. That's what we teach in MT. Stand your ground but hose the bear with the pepper spray, both of you can leave the scene unharmed.
