A 20-year-old man from Irvine, Calif. has been charged on two counts for assaulting a female flight attendant last week after he allegedly punched a woman in the face twice for accidentally bumping into him.
Brian Hsu is being charged in federal court with interference with a flight crew and assault within the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States, the U.S. Department of Justice said Monday.
Hsu, who was seated in first class, allegedly punched a woman in the face twice on Oct. 27 on a flight from New Yorks JFK Airport to John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, Calif. The flight had to be diverted to Denver International Airport, where the man was interrogated by FBI agents.
Interfering with a flight crew carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison.
The American Airlines flight attendant suffered a broken nose, according to the Association of Professional Flight Attendants union. She was hospitalized for a short stay and then returned to her home base in New York.
