5. I once had the thrill of seeing a pair of sandhill crannes strolling casually down the street right here in town.

It was pure luck that I happened to be in the right place to see those majestic birds when they emerged from the grounds of the elementary school my daughter had attended years before, sauntered down the street, and continued on their way for a while before dropping out of sight again. It was magical, seeing them appear and then disappear again like that.
