3. Even 30 years after his death, no one would buy his works

It wasn't until 1920 that the Detroit Institute of Arts finally bought one of his self-portraits. It was the first purchase of a Van Gogh by an art museum.



In 2022, the Detroit Institute of Arts held a Van Gogh exhibit that, in addition to its original purchase, featured dozens of other Van Gogh originals. I was lucky enough to attend that exhibit.
