I would love to pm you the pattern for suggestions, but it wasn't a free pattern, and I'm kind of concerned about violating the designer's rights . . .

It seems simple enough, but I'm having a hard time with it. I've tried using different size crochet hooks, and the bigger ones might work, but pushing it through the loops was so hard I got real frustrated.
