Here is a piece I just uncovered, buried in my artglut - watercolor/gouache, pen & ink...... [View all]

...on paper - I call it "Fighting Horses" - by an artist named Millard F. Wells, dated 1948.

I grew up with this painting on the wall in the hallway of our Tinley Park IL tract home.

I inherited it a decade or so back.

The frame is original, but refinished (it used to have a glossy textured white but cracked/damaged/chipped plaster layer over the wood), and I re-mounted and re-matted the piece using archival materials.

This piece was done by Millard at the relatively early age of 26-27.

I contacted one of his relatives, and she said the piece would date to the time he spent in art school in Chicago, at the Art Institute, IIRC.

Millard later became regionally famous in Florida with his watercolors of Florida waterscapes in the 1960s.
