My sculpture work on a game called The Immortal in the early 1990s [View all]
This was a full page advertisement for the game. The skulls depict the different ways you can die in horrible ways. The skulls were all life size and the art director simply told me what the cause of deaths were and I came up with how to depict them. The photographer shot the skulls lined up and cut off the 4 outside skulls so it would look like there could be more skulls.
The upper left skull is titled Scorched by a dragon blasting it with its fire breath.
The upper right is named Scalped and looks like someone sliced through half the upper skull.
The lower left is named Shafted, thus the arrows sticking out of it.
The lower right one is named Spored and looked like a really bad case of pustules (like bad acne) covering it. I picked large rose thorns and stuck them into the pustules to make them look like spores.
The second shot is of my favorite skull depicting drowning. I was really proud of it. I was happy with the ideas I came up with because in quite a few of them the manner of deaths was a little difficult to translate on skulls. Deaths like Scalped on a skull with no hair, or of drowning, or spored. This job was a lot of fun for all the kids in the neighborhood because I sculpted them at my kitchen table and they were all laying on it. Its was quite a macabre sight! They all decided I was a cool mom.
