acrylic paints and they seem to do just fine with one coat, but I do prime pretty much everything I paint with a coat of white paint (same brand) first. Mostly, I paint woodworking projects and whatever things that I carve.

One really cool yellow effect I got one time was using Spice Islands Turmeric mixed with alcohol and soaking a bamboo chopstick in it. It turned the chopstick into this beautiful yellow color and you could see the veins more clearly. I was experimenting that night for a moss terrarium stand decoration I needed to make and had all kinds of things mixed together.
