paintings from Martinique are stunning and have been historically overlooked for the works he did in France and Tahiti.

Martinique is a beautiful island alive with with natural beauty, vibrant culture and French creole flair. The cuisine, architecture and beaches are the best. In 1902, St. Pierre, the old port town, once known as the 'Paris of the Caribbean' was struck by the volcano Mt. Pele killing 30,000 people. During WWII the French island was controlled by the Vichy govt. and the 1944 movie, 'To Have and Have Not' with Bogie & Bacall was set there.
