If you post your work on IG, beware of scammers. [View all]

I've had attempts to scam me before, but this recent one was rather unique. A woman contacted me and said she wanted to commission me to do a painting for her son's birthday. He's turning 5 and loves Spiderman and anything to do with spider webs. I told her how much I charged and sent her some reference photos of some webs. She picked one and said she needed to withdraw the money from her son's account. This dragged on for a couple weeks. Then, yesterday she said the boy's father withdrew the wrong amount. Now I knew what was coming. She asked if she could send me the cheque for $1,500, take my commission, and send her the rest.

I told her I knew a scam was coming but I was surprised she dragged it out for this long. And I told her to wish "Micky" a Happy Birthday for me.
