11. The only 2 peso notes the US government issued were for the Philippines

The US itself didn't get into the currency printing business until the Civil War. Before that, paper money was issued by private banks. It is possible that private banks in places like Texas or California issued notes in peso denominations, but the Republic of Texas government issued dollar-denominated notes (which were essentially worthless).

Saying that, if you could give a description of your note, it would help in identifying it.
