When our family lived in Australia because like many other British comedies, it was a staple for Aussie TV back then.

We came back to the states in 1974 and shortly after PBS started broadcasting the Flying Circus but NONE of my nor my brothers friends knew anything about them.

When Holy Grail hit the theaters I think this was still the case. People just didn't really know what to think.

I remember like it was yesterday when me and my brother went to see the movie when it came out. As soon as the film started we began giggling because we KNEW something silly was going to happen. People in front of us turned and looked at us as if we were nuts because nothing had happened yet.

And then....the opening credits started rolling...serious music, black screen....

Followed shortly by the fucking subtitles in faux Swedish!

We just lost it.

It took the rest of the audience a bit to catch on, but from then on it was a laugh fest.

We had to go see it 2 more times over the next week just to catch all the dialogue because so much of it was drowned out by laughter.
