The Jews had been ghettoized, rather than being exterminated which was the suggestion from above, and while they suffered many hardships they were obviously glad, on learning after the war what had happened to so many others, to have spent their days together, at least, and to have survived. A penchant for Chinese food, and for the game of Man Jong, both originated there and have long continued.
