Tonight, the North Pole will be tilted directly away from the sun, and the sun will be -23.44° below the Equator, making the shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. This is when primitive people celebrated that the sun would now turn around and head north again. I heartily agree!

(We geeks have a way of recognizing each other, huh. )
