when it was first built in the mid '50's and early '60's, when shopping at quality department stores like B. Altman and Bonwit Teller without having to go into Manhattan was a new idea. What memories!
B. Altman in Manhattan was right across the street from the Empire State Building, and, of course, Bonwit Teller was destroyed by Trump to put up Trump Tower. Both department stores went out of business in the late '80's-90's, but the B. Altman 5th Ave building is still there, and was designated a NYC landmark in 1985.
