Alabama Republican Booed Out Of Town Hall While Attempting To Defend Trump [View all]

A Republican Senate candidate who was booed out of his own town hall says left-wing agitators are the reason he ducked out the back door while the crowd chanted, “Shame! Shame! Shame!” Rep. Barry Moore (R-Ala.) is running for U.S. Senate next year in the seat currently held by Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R), who, in turn, is seeking the state’s gubernatorial office.

Even though his appearance at the city hall in Daphne, Alabama, on Wednesday night was never publicly advertised, many constituents nevertheless showed up. And they certainly made themselves heard. A video of the 45-minute event, shared on YouTube, shows the crowd remaining civil as Moore praised himself for his accessibility. But things devolved quickly at the first mention of President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill.”

“We have $37 trillion in debt,” Moore remarked, ignoring the fact that Trump’s bill is projected to hike the deficit by $4 trillion. He then portrayed the bill, which cut taxes for the wealthy while eliminating critical programs for vulnerable people, as an expansion of Medicaid (it actually defunded Medicaid by $930 billion). The crowd laughed in disbelief. And then the boos began.

“You’re lying!” several people shouted as Moore claimed that denying immigrants access to health care would somehow make the system solvent. (It actually costs more, because people then turn to emergency medicine for care instead of seeking preventative care.) Moore grew increasingly frustrated as he attempted to defend voting for Trump’s bill, at one point throwing his hands up at a staffer in exasperation, who then admonished the crowd: “It’s very hard to speak while you guys are speaking,” the staffer said.
