2. Because of several reasons

First off, the federal workforce salaries only represents 4 % of the entire budget. So, even if you fire everybody it's a small number compared to the rest which goes to the actual programs.

Second, firing that many people will render these federal agencies inefficient, wasting money instead of saving some.

Third, some of what will be cut will directly lead to more losses.

For example, if we cut programs aimed at reducing the impact of global warming on coastal areas, the end result will be higher costs due to floods and other disasters not to mention the human toll.

If you think about the purpose of these agencies and the programs and services they provide, its pretty easy to see why that's the case.

I'm sure the gop knows that but does not care because they are more focused on holding power, favoring the investor class and hurting people they don't like.
