In an angst-ridden screed on Truth Social, President-elect Donald Trump lashed out at New York Judge Juan Merchan for refusing to throw out his criminal hush-money conviction.
Calling Merchan a “radical partisan” who is “deeply conflicted, corrupt, biased,” Trump described the ruling as a “psychotic order” that “goes against our Constitution.”
Trump claimed he was being held under an “illegal gag order” by Merchan and if he was released from it, he would “expose” the judge and judge’s family’s “disqualifications.”

Merchan explained Monday that he wouldn’t dismiss Trump’s conviction because the charged offenses occurred before Trump began his initial term as president, meaning the Supreme Court’s sweeping immunity protections for “official acts” of the president didn’t apply to Trump here. The “overwhelming evidence of guilt” laid out at trial, Merchan wrote, showed Trump’s bid to cover up hush-money payments to Stormy Daniels was outside even the “outer perimeter” of immunity protections because the falsification of records was “decidedly personal.”
