(12,056 posts)It's been a rough couple decades.
I think the horrors of today could ultimately lead to a more enduring level of participation by ordinary people for decades to come. For too long, we've allowed political advocacy to be professionalized -- something that ordinary people only served as ATM's for. I think that is changing. People are getting creative and finding ways to connect with others in their own communities. Folks are pestering their electeds in numbers we haven't seen for a long, long, time.
I think countless people doing their bits across this nation is slowly turning the tide. And the numbers are growing.
It's not the only measure, but the Oct 18 No Kings is already exceeding the number of events that were hosted for No Kings in June (which exceeded Hands Off in April by something like 50%).
It's early days, but I think the signs are positive for the opposition.
And even if they weren't, I'd still be looking for reasons to hope and things to promote. Hope is as much the life's blood of resistance as lies are for authoritarians.
