That's what the whole baseball bat shtick was about, lurking behind those who displeased him like he was about to dash their brains out.

But now he's more like Grandpa in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, or King Theoden in The Lord of the Rings before Gandalf freed him from the influence of Saruman and Grima; sitting there looking for all the world like a mummified corpse until someone disturbs him and he begins flailing around, helpless and uncomprehending--yet still recognized as Dearest Leader.
