Epstein case: Speaker Mike Johnson said he would shut down the House until September in order to head off Democratic demands for votes calling for the release of files from the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier and sex offender who was once friends with President Trump.

The announcement came just after the House Oversight Committee voted to subpoena Ghislaine Maxwell, the longtime partner of Mr. Epstein, for a deposition.
