18. He's 100% right. And we need the Republican Party back, or some form of it.

It's current form is unsustainable and will burn out as soon as Donny becomes completely incapacitated or dies. Being fully captured by the uber rich, which got Republicans into this mess to start with, is also unsustainable, even for the uber rich. The country they envision, a repeat of the Gilded Age, is sub optimal for everyone, including them. I firmly believe that thinking more about the betterment of the nation as a whole, and not just themselves, would improve their own situations more than being a greedy individualist. The old Republican party leaned more to that direction. Not as much as Dems, but far more than they do now.

I say we need them, the concept of the old Republican Party, because Dems, like everyone else, can go off the rails to unsustainable land. I see that in my own state capital, Montpelier, or "Montpeculiar" depending on the general mood. To put it succinctly, we need "party poopers" to say..."Yes, that big screen TV is nice, but we don't need it, worse yet, can't afford it, and what we have now is serviceable." Works the other way too. We both give each other a moment of pause, and add to the debate so wiser heads can prevail. There are no more wise heads on the R side. Not with Donny Poopy Pants around riling up the great unwashed.
