7. Nixon....

Now, for the first time, the whole story can be told.
It begins in the summer of 1968. Nixon feared a breakthrough at the Paris Peace talks designed to find a negotiated settlement to the Vietnam war, and he knew this would derail his campaign.
He therefore set up a clandestine back-channel involving Anna Chennault, a senior campaign adviser.
At a July meeting in Nixon's New York apartment, the South Vietnamese ambassador was told Chennault represented Nixon and spoke for the campaign. If any message needed to be passed to the South Vietnamese president, Nguyen Van Thieu, it would come via Chennault.
In late October 1968 there were major concessions from Hanoi which promised to allow meaningful talks to get underway in Paris - concessions that would justify Johnson calling for a complete bombing halt of North Vietnam. This was exactly what Nixon feared.

Also, at that time, in December 67 and January 68..... I was watching Johnson......McNamara was requesting an ADDITIONAL 250,000 to be drafted before the upcoming TET offensive........McNamara told the military recruiters to drop the IQ requirement to 80?, and to focus on the Black Population as they were the easiest pickings..........And to rush them through basic and get them to Viet Nam........

Johnson wanted to be seen as being tough in VietNam, Cambodia, and Laos, went along with it....Not sure the public new about Cambodia and Laos at that time.....

These soldiers/draftees were called "McNamara's Morons".......google it..........

a few HUNDRED thousand of soldiers, with the lack of brains of Forrest Gump, but without the Gump basic comprehension and heroics......

Interesting fact, probably has something to do with McNamara focusing on Blacks.......
Something like 11.3% of all the soldiers in Viet Nam were black, but the blacks accounted for something like 18% of the KIA's.........

I was nauseated with what was being done by Nixon & later Johnson..........but that was infinitesimal to what I am seeing now.
I am consumed, like countless others, with the ANGER I feel now, 24/7/365 and as far as the eye can see into the future.

I often ask people.........Do these Republican Politcians and Voters have kids or grandkids, or do they only care about themselves and their piss ant little short sighted, tiny microcosm worlds they live in??????????

It certainly has to be the later..................

Many of the people I see and talk to, STILL aren't paying attention to what has been going on for the last 45+ years, and especially the last nine years, and just going on about their lives................
