Republican Adam Kinzinger: "I don't think the GOP can be saved in the near term" - Salon Talks

Adam Kinzinger, the former congressman from Illinois, talks to Salon’s Andrew O’Hehir about the future of the GOP under president-elect Donald Trump in 2025. Kinzinger shares why the party walked away from its defining principles and why he has decided to support Democrats, despite still being a Republican.

He talks about Joe Biden’s presidency, Speaker Mike Johnson and what kind of leadership Republicans need to revive the party post-Trump. Kinzinger is the subject of Steve Pink’s new documentary, “The Last Republican," which follows his final year in Congress and his role in the January 6th Committee hearings. - 01/04/2025.

which is what it will take to remove them from power.

the question of masculinity interests me. even the proud boys seem to adhere to a twisted version of the boy scout oath.

i don't think those boy scout values are out of date, and they do include a respect for women totally absent from the trumpist ethos

"a scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful friendly courteous kind obedient cheerful thrifty brave clean and reverent." (if i remember that after 1/2 century they must be enduring values)

"be prepared"

In the face of death threats he did the right thing, never hesitated to hold TFG accountable, and, like Liz Cheney, he lost his elected office. He was also a respected veteran.
