I need to tell you something personal... - Luke Beasley

Luke discusses a community effort to support foster care children.

====================

Luke wants to inspire people and not detach from society because of the Trump election victory. Luke wants to continue uplifting people so he decided to honor his mother on her birthday on December 31 by having a fundraiser for the 400,000 children in foster care. Thus far she has raised over $98,000.

I saw this video and like Luke. The video was in my youtube recs almost immediately after it was posted.

Having said that, I didn't want to nay-say his video while he's trying to do something good. Here, on a discussion board, seems more appropriate for a critique.

There should be NO need for any charities in a functioning society. I appreciate that the organization is trying to do good, but in today's climate, it merely enables bad behavior from the people addicted to hate.

Democrats have time and again worked to help poor, white, rural folk (Of which I came from and live among). Rural white folk are under the delusion that they are self-made. They've never needed or used anyone's help ----except for their family clan. There is little love among the lot. Trump's transactional nature appeals to them, because they are transactional too.

Shortly after Obama was first elected, I had a discussion with my sanctimonious, Trumpy sister. She was lauding southern Christians and US citizens as being among the most charitable in the world. She was intimating at how much more superior and godly Christians are over Scandinavians using charitable donations as the thermometer.

I said, "That's right. The Scandinavians DON'T donate much to charity. They've built the well-being of their citizenry into the system. There is no need for them to donate. That's why their taxes are so high. " What could she say to that?

There is no way stupid-folk are going to correct their actions through learning from others. Trump voters lack empathy and have no ability to understand anything unless it happens directly to them.

I currently do not support any charities. I am of the opinion that as a society we should support each other. I will always vote for a strong safety net and social programs. But we do (or did) get to vote. If the majority of us want to play the I-got-mine-you-greedy-bastard rules, I have to play by those rules in order to exist. [It's "I got mine, you greedy bastard" because the two thrusts of the philosophy are preserving one's own material fortune, and denigrating others with "You greedy bastard just wanna take my stuff and take advantage of me---me and my good buddy, Trump, Musk, Vivek----you just wanna take OUR stuff. . ."]

Enabling an addict is not helping them. Around here, donating to the church is the proper way to buy your right to be disdainful of the less fortunate. I'm not entirely hard-hearted. I do/will support a more equitable society ---not through charities ----they aren't particularly good band-aids for society's diseases. ----Still, I hope he's successful.
