Let's talk about Trump trying to declare victory in Iran.... - Belle of the Ranch

Well, howdy there Internet people. It's Belle again. So, today we're going to talk about Trump trying to declare victory in Iran.

It looks like Trump might be priming his base for an attempt at declaring victory and walking away. Sadly, he's doing it in the most transparent way possible and trying to get some kind of deal to close it out because apparently the reality TV host doesn't understand that you don't need to make a deal if you win. Even in the declare victory and walk away style move, which is a move used when you're losing, Trump can't stop his ego from getting in the way at the expense of American troops.

The clearest example of this is a recent social media post from Trump. Trump posted, "The United States of America is in serious discussions with a new and more reasonable regime to end our military operations in Iran. Great progress has been made. But if for any reason a deal is not shortly reached, which it probably will be, and if the Hormuz Strait is not immediately open for business, we will conclude our lovely stay in Iran by blowing up and completely obliterating all of their electric generating plants, oil wells, and Kharg Island, and possibly all desalinization plants, which we have purposefully not yet touched. This will be in retribution for our many soldiers and others that Iran has butchered and killed over the old regime's 47-year reign of terror. Thank you for your attention to this matter, President Donald J. Trump.”

First, there is no new reasonable regime in Iran. This is simply included to get the most easily conned people in his base to think he achieved regime change, which was one of his many shifting stated goals that he failed to achieve. There was no regime change. The same government is currently in power. This is just a made-up fantasy. But more importantly, if you're declaring victory, why do you need to be in discussions to end your operations? You don't, right? Trump is blending too much truth in here. It looks like he's seeking permission from Iran to withdraw, and that little bit of information worked its way into his post.

Then he says that this new reasonable totally regime changed government needs to open the Strait or else he'll do a bunch of things many of which would be in violation of the laws of armed conflict. Trump is so desperate to make a deal to make it look like he's winning he is openly talking about hitting desalinization plants.

I can't wait for the crowd that always explains how something could be in bounds tries to come up with some scenario in which intentionally hitting fresh water supplies for the civilian population in order to gain compliance from the opposition is in bounds. So much for this being about helping the Iranian people. I will literally take any scenario. Doesn't even have to be related to Iran.

This is out of bounds for those who need it plainly stated. I cannot imagine any scenario in which threatening all the desalinization plants in the country is lawful, especially when Trump also states it would be retribution to target the civilian infrastructure.

Trump is managing to mess up the simplest move in foreign policy. Look, get some poster board. List the numbers of targets hit by category, maybe some clip art. Read the numbers to compliant media and talk about how much the US degraded their capabilities and declare victory and get out. It's really that simple. No deal, no flash. Just end the fighting before he makes it even worse.

Anyway, it's just a thought. Y'all have a good day.
