Let's talk about Trump impeachment talk and Greenland as a red line.... - Belle of the Ranch

Well, howdy there Internet people. It's Belle again. So, today we're going to talk about a Trump impeachment and how Greenland is a red line.

Capitol Hill is currently a buzz with news of two potential impeachments. One of them is mostly performative and signaling. The other is a great big flashing warning sign to Trump.

Trump's habit of implying military action against Greenland is being called “utter buffoonery” on Capitol Hill. Beyond that, there's this quote. “If he went through with the threats, I think it would be the end of his presidency, and he needs to know. The offramp is realizing Republicans aren't going to tolerate this, and he's going to have to back off. He hates being told no, but in this case, I think Republicans need to be firm.”

It goes on. “It would be a total mistake to invade an ally. It would be catastrophic to our allies and everything. It's just the worst idea ever in my view.”

I mean, he's not wrong. I say again, the US without NATO is not a superpower. But when he was asked if he would support impeachment of Trump over potential military action against Greenland, he said, "I would lean that way."

Now, here's the thing. Every quote I just said came from Republican Don Bacon, who voted against Trump's other impeachments. An impeachment in the House isn't out of the question. It would only take a few to cross over and there are enough Republican representatives who would like to go ahead and put the duck in the pond. It also stands a chance of making it through the Senate because many senators understand the economic importance of NATO. Rule one in DC, don't mess with the money.

Trump has apparently finally found a red line where Republicans will act to curtail his worst impulses. Sadly, it took Trump literally threatening acts of war against an ally to reach that line. Trump is terrified of another impeachment. He brings it up constantly. So, this will probably cool his heels a bit on Greenland.

Now, the other potential impeachment. Articles of impeachment have been filed against Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem in the House. It's got decent backing from within the Democratic party, and there are two Republicans who are likely to support it, but it stands almost no chance of making it through the Senate as things currently stand. Her actions aren't impacting their defense stocks and long-term investments. And while the polling on Trump's immigration policies has fallen, it hasn't reached critical levels yet.

The fact that it's unlikely to make it through the Senate has some Democrats in the House irritated by the push. The way they see it, the Democratic party can win the midterms by showing Trump as ineffectual and just pointing to the economic data. If Democrats start pushing legislation that fails, they lose the ineffectual talking point. The other side's argument is basically, have you seen the news? So, we have two conversations on impeachment happening. One is probably messaging. The other signals a significant shift in the Republican party. This is public talk of impeaching Trump. Bacon isn't alone. This should be taken by Trump as a warning sign.

Anyway, it's just a thought. Y'all have a good day.
