'This did not go well for them: Mayor Frey reacts as Minneapolis ICE surges ENDS - All In - MS NOW

“You saw a federal government and an administration that thought that they were going to break the people of Minneapolis down. They thought that we were going to back down,” says Mayor Jacob Frey. “And here's the thing, we didn't. The people of Minneapolis stood up. They stood up for their neighbors.” - Aired on 02/12/2026.

From those local businesses that were harmed, those who were afraid to leave their homes, children who missed school and especially for the friends and family of Renee Good and Alex Pretti.

and I am devastated for our community.

My sister works in education with young children. ICE busted through her school doors with guns out, looking for an adult. The poor children were traumatized, as was staff. ... I have hispanic family members - born in the US, carrying birth certificates. Many restaurants are closed, as staff is afraid to work. Some whom I work with (engineers) are working from home, as they fear being scooped up by ICE, in spite of having legal status. The impact has had a ripple effect.

Not to mention, detainees were/are being dumped off outside the Whipple Building (and beyond) in below zero temps without adequate shoes/clothing or access to a telephone to call for assistance. Thankfully, there are volunteers who are on standby waiting to assist. Were that not the case, there would be even more casualties from this cruel madness.

That said, I'm an awe of my neighbors. The organized aid, collective caring and bravery of Minnesotans makes me proud. Unfortunately, two people were murdered and many others tortured by the tyranny. I do hope there is a semblance of justice in the future.

I can't imagine the trauma, not only for the entire community, but especially for the children who are being traumatized at a young age and it no doubt will remain with them.

And, as you said, this terrible experience did bring neighbors helping neighbors, the only positive that came out of this terrible experience. What I will never understand is how there (as yet) no punishment for the massive examples of law breaking, intentionally injuring residents, damaging their cars, the trauma to families and actual cold blooded murder. Those who were responsible need to face trials and punishment, and the rest of their miserable lives behind bars. Yet those who murdered Alex Pretti, last I knew, have yet to be identified.

One of my good college friends came from St. Paul. I've thought of her this whole time and keep hoping she's okay. The weird thing was, while we were in college, people who didn't know us well, frequently mixed us up, the first and only time that's happened to me. And it didn't hurt that we not only must have looked alike, but we had the same first name.

Thanks so much for sharing what happened. And you do have good reason to be proud of your brave community. I wish both you and your neighbors a successful recovery, though I know that this experience will stay with you for a very long time.

I know that local authorities are investigating the ICE related murders, and my hope is that the assassins involved will receive the same kind of justice that Derek Chauvin did. Trump can't pardon those charged by the state of MN.

I expect the state will attempt to hold the feds responsible for the financial costs involved in their attempt to break us as well.

In the end, we're largely skeptical of the notion of a draw-down but maintain cautious optimism that it will happen, soon.

Like your college friend, I am also from Saint Paul.
