"He Was the Man With the Dog": Neighbor Speaks After Alex Pretti Killed by ICE in Minneapolis - KARE 11

A neighbor of Alex Pretti, the 37-year-old Minneapolis resident and registered ICU nurse shot and killed by an ICE agent Saturday, is sharing memories of the man she says everyone knew as “the man with the dog.”

In this interview, neighbors describe Alex as kind, quiet, and caring — someone they spoke with regularly over the fence, walked his dog through the neighborhood, and never believed capable of harming anyone. They say they were shocked to learn he was even present at the scene, and stunned by the circumstances surrounding his death.

Federal officials say Pretti was legally carrying a firearm, a detail neighbors say surprised them given his profession and demeanor. As investigations continue, those who lived near Alex say they are focused on remembering who he was to them — a helper, a nurse, and a good neighbor. - Aired on 01/24/2026.
