Malnutrition rises in Gaza as Israeli blockade enters third month BBC News

Malnutrition continues to rise in Gaza as an Israeli blockade enters its third month.

Israel cut off all humanitarian aid and other supplies from entering Gaza on 2 March, and resumed its military offensive two weeks later.

It said it was putting pressure on Hamas to release the 59 hostages the group is still holding in Gaza, up to 24 of whom are still thought to be alive.

A senior Hamas official has said the armed group is not interested in further talks on a new Gaza ceasefire and hostage release deal while Israel continues what he called its "starvation war".

Since the beginning of the year, according to the UN, about 10,000 cases of acute malnutrition among children in Gaza have been identified.

A local BBC colleague filmed the unmistakable signs of advanced malnutrition in five-month-old Siwar in Gaza's Nasser hospital.
