'Enormous pain for no gain': Trump admin ramps up bombing of Yemen - Velshi - MSNBC

Since mid-March, the U.S. has been ramping up bombings on Houthi rebels in Yemen. In all, nearly 200 people – many civilians – have been killed by U.S. strikes since March 15th.

As the Trump Administration guts foreign aid, NYTimes columnist Nicholas Kristof, who’s been covering the conflict for years, says, “We can't afford 12 cents a day to keep those kids alive, yet we are spending millions of dollars killing civilians for no obvious purpose.” - Aired on 04/2025.

While we begrudge 12 cents. How insane is our world?

The strikes that Hegseth was crowing about on Signal cost more than 50 lives, mostly civilians. For what? The Houthis had stopped their attacks on ships months ago, per Kristoff.

Further, the damage to the port will impact humanitarian aid, something Hegseth of course would not even consider.

But TFG doesn't care, he has to be the first Commander in Chief who actually reviles the U.S. military.

Of course he doesn't value the lives of those brown and black children, he doesn't value any poor children, including Americans. Head Start, public education, food banks, SNAP etc.

I was also pointing to the twisted values of a world that spends gazillions on the MIC but can't "afford" a few cents to keep children healthy or alive - at home or abroad.
