Related: About this forumMedical marijuana certification question.
I had a doctor visit six days ago for chronic pain, which is a qualifying condition in New Mexico. My doctor mentioned medical marijuana as a possible treatment for the pain. I told him I wanted to try it. He said he would write up a certification and mail it to me. I haven't received the certification yet.
Is it too soon to bug him about it? I don't know what process he has to go through to write up a certification for medical marijuana. Perhaps the certification has to be reviewed by someone at his place of business?

(2,410 posts)Even though Cali is a recreational state now, I still get my rec on-line since the medical marijuana dispensaries tend to be cheaper. The only requirement in this state seems to be that the doctor must talk to the patient when issuing the rec, so I do chat with the issuing physician each time I renew (yearly), verbally at least if my web cam isn't functioning. They email a fully valid temp rec instantly and then mail me a fancy, signed and witnessed rec about 5 days later. The rec is also posted at my doc's website should any dispensaries wish to check my status.
Maybe there are additional rules at your physician's practice, but these laws seem intended to transfer full authority for deciding to the doctors, again, at least in CA. The doctors don't have to prescribe or provide the pot, just the recommendation that your condition (pain) could benefit from pot use.
I'd give the office a call on Tuesday. We're talking about pain here!
Hope this is helpful...

(18,356 posts)...with our MD within the last year. It just has to be mentioned in the dr notes..we take that to a state approved 'provider' who makes sure our paper work is in order (the provider i see is a Naturopath)..and that our condition meets state guidelines and from then we can choose go to the local med approved pot shop to get registered with the state ( just gives us access to more grows and more oz's)..this is optional...but then we get a cute card with a horrid photo. Or just go buy pot.
But if I were in the position you are now, I would call.

(9,448 posts)If you are accepted, you will get your card in a few weeks. If you want to grow, you need to fill out a grow application to send with your original application.

(18,356 posts)condition.. the MD doesnt give us the cert. WE go to another provider who does only that....we take our medical records in and they make the determination that everything is documented and we get the certification right there. If we want to grow more than the 4 plants the MMJ cert gives us we can get registered with the state at our local pot store if they are certified for MMJ....which means we get a card with our photo on it ( awful cell phone quality)..and grow 6-15 plants ( determined by our severity by the MMJ provider who certified us)
I'd call!

(1,262 posts)The doctor's office insisted that it was mailed out, but I never received it. Finally, after almost two weeks, the doctor's office sent me another certification.
