My petition for Obama to enforce stricter gun laws
I am a 17 years old Malaysian teen who is dreaming of going to USA to
study and live there since I am a child. Due to my pro USA stance, I
sometimes have some disagreement with my schoolmates who are not as
like-minded as me.
However, recently I am shocked to hear a lot of senseless gun shootings since
Newtown shooting spree. This made me to reconsider my plan to USA and made me
scared that whether I will be the next victim of another senseless gun
incident if Mr President and the Congress hasn't found a way to enforce
stricter gun control laws. So, I, together with WE THE PEOPLE, hopes that
Obama and the Congress will try to tighten the existing gun control laws for
a BETTER & SAFER future.

(55,447 posts)It would be more helpful if you could specify what precisely you would like the President to do. Remember that much of what needs to be done hinges on congressional approval. So perhaps you could frame it in terms of renewing the push for passing a background check bill, for example.

(55,447 posts)I would leave him to find a way to tighten gun law, just with a win win solution with congressman.

(55,447 posts)Which is of course why we have this group. The President has already issued a series of executive orders to do what he can to enforce existing laws. The problem lies with congressional approval. The National Rifle Association is a powerful and wealthy lobby, adept at lying to the public and scaring them into believing any gun control is an effort to restrict their Second Amendment rights and take away their guns. We must find a way to break their grip over congress. I just want you to realize that the President's power is limited here.

I create this petition to motivate him to keep standing up against NRA in order to push for more sensible gun legislation to try to solve the gun violences that is happening in America virtually everyday.
