Untreated mental illness an imminent danger?
This 60 minutes segment last night was very good and worth the watch.

(72,047 posts)really jumped out at me.
it's just damned dickensian is what it is. or maybe barbaric is a better word. at least in dickens time there was bedlam.
i really think that involuntary detention law has gone too far to the other side. we can't throw women in a hole for being uppity or loose, but that women can't get her brother committed with a piece of video like that.
do you know if the scans they were talking about were mri's or pet's? man, an actually physical test for a mental illness would make so much difference. but they tell me that pet scans are not really that reliable. useful for research, but not for individual diagnosis.

(146,218 posts)It was a heartbreaking episode, I thought. Some have been screaming about this for a very long time.
Kudos to 60 minutes for doing this as part of the first show this season.
Why they did O'Reilly for one of their segments, OTOH, I can not figure out.

(72,047 posts)it is heartbreaking, and sheriff tom dart is a most decent man in an indecent situation. the good news is that the new county board president and new county board members are no longer members of the get along gang. they are quite determined to sort that mess out. it is both ridiculous and extremely expensive.
