(23,532 posts)I'm not sure I follow... we don't delete people's posting histories. If you mean the posts on your My Posts page, that page only shows your posts which you either posted, or which were replied to, within the previous 30 days. But the posts still exist, they just don't appear on the My Posts page anymore.

(8,926 posts)So every 30 days "my posts" is deleted, but what I have posted before then, is still on the internet? But, we don't have access anymore.

(24,256 posts)I think that posts remain in the database and are accessible, but you have to have bookmarked or saved the link to them, or find via search.
Just my thought, based on some experience.
Advanced search could be faster, IMO, and sometimes times out.

(23,532 posts)The "My Posts" page simply displays any posts that you made in the last 30 days. It also displays any of your posts which were replied to in the last 30 days. So if someone happens to reply to a post that you made a year ago, that post will reappear on the My Posts page.
The posts that you make aren't deleted after 30 days -- they remain where you posted them. If you want to find posts that are older than 30 days, you can use either the regular Search function (click the magnifying glass icon in the top right) or by using the Advanced Search function (click the magnifying glass, then click the Advanced Search button).
Just bear in mind that the Advanced Search function is not very reliable -- it works best if you search for narrow date ranges or specific forums. If you try to search too much at once, it will likely time out and fail to give you a result.

(61,006 posts)and set it for All Posts and set the forum(s) and time range you want to search.
And you'll get no more than 250 results at a time.
So if you've posted a lot, you'll end up doing a LOT of searches, constantly changing the time range, to find all your old posts.
It'll take fewer searches if you're looking for a particular keyword or name in a thread title and search only for that one word...and with DU's advanced search, only one keyword is allowed for each search.

(12,830 posts)file, and when it pops up the tiny little Paste Options box, I specifying Keep Source Formatting. (I have Office 2010).
This also keeps the hyperlinks so I can click on them to go to the hyperlinked posts.
The reason I do about every 20 days is because the most recent posts have things like "2:55 PM" "Yesterday" "Monday", "Tuesday" etc. So these need to be scraped again when those time/day designations are replaced by dates like "Feb 5" "Feb 4" etc. which is much more useful for my long-term archives.
(Actually, rather than "about every 20 days" I actually look at the oldest line that still has these objectional day/time indicators and then realizing that these will fall off 30 days from then, I set a reminder in my calendar to scrape about 4 days before the "fall off" date I calculate)
After pasting, I then get rid of the duplicates that occur.
I do some formatting, e.g. get rid of the bold, make the font Arial 8, and I format with 1.5 lines between lines (Home -> Paragraphs -> Line and Paragraph Spacing ... )
One can search this file, which is named DUPostsA.docx, by the subject line of the posts and the post that was replied to

Additionally, for key posts that I want to make easy to find and add some description to it, I separately write something and include the URL link after I write and post the post. This post of an example, so that I don't have to write this all over again the next time I want to post this or something like this.
I'm aware of DU's Search and Advanced Search functionality but have found them not reliable or easy to use -- others have indicated they too have to narrow search ranges and search repeatedly, but sometimes it's the way to go.
