(2,698 posts)then go to your account settings right now and update your password to something you will remember so that when you connect your computer at your new place, youll be able to log in without any problems.

(67,444 posts)I'm in a bit of a panic now. My mind is on the move which is happening now. Thanks!

(2,698 posts)The fact that you dont remember your password means you wouldnt be able to log in if you had to, without going through a process to retrieve your password.
Updating your password now (and then making sure you write it down and keep where youll be able to find it) means that youll be able to login from anywhere.
Good luck with your move!

(12,485 posts)Here's what I see: "My DU" tab -> Account Settings -> Change Password
when I click on Change Password, I see my username, and a box with "Password" in it.
Since you don't know your password, click the "Forgot password" link that is there below the "Verify" button
It says "You will be SIGNED OUT of your account so that you can request a new password. Proceed?"
I don't know what happens next if _I_ click OK, I don't want to risk losing my current password, so I'm going no further with this by clicking OK.
To answer a specific question of yours, my password happens to be 8 characters (both letters and numbers). It may be that new passwords have to be longer, whatever.
There should be guidance or rules on that page about choosing a password (like I said, I don't want to go further in the process because I might lose my current password, so I don't know if there is guidance or not)
If no guidance/rules, Just type in an 8 character (or longer) password in place of the dots you see, and of course write it down. (You may get away with a shorter password, I don't know, but the longer, the more secure).
I have no idea what will happen next.

(2,698 posts)And I see that you have to *enter* your current password in order to change your password. Thats a problem for you, since you dont remember your current password. As another DUer has pointed out, requesting a new password will sign you out. Assuming you are certain of the email address that your password change request will be sent to, you should be able to access it via your email. If you think theres any possibility that you may have used a different email in the past that you cant access, I suggest you contact the administrators for more help. Good luck!

(128,036 posts)or if you unplug your computer and move it somewhere else. Once you're at your new location and the computer is turned on, your star membership will be "remembered" by DU. You could go anywhere in the world.

(12,485 posts)I'm surprise this hasn't happened to you.
It just so happens that about half an hour ago, I clicked on my usual DU home page bookmarked link and it showed me a page where I wasn't signed in and asked me to sign in (usually this link takes me to the DU home page with me already signed in).
Note I haven't done anything unusual in the slightest or in the least since the last time I accessed DU. I didn't clear my browser cache, I did not restart my computer, none of that.
Anyone else?
