I live in a city where Asian ancestry is around 15% of the population, so I'm always a bit surprised to learn that these stereotypes are still apparently incredibly common.

(113,131 posts)and some of the stereotypes are really bizarre. Even Hispanos are stereotyped.
The funny part about it is that the white folks doing the stereotyping are just another minority in this state.

The stereotype of the "submissive Asian woman" comes about because submission was, and is, enforced. Historically many Chinese women found it pretty difficult to be anything except submissive whilst in agony with their feet deformed by bindings. Women in Asia were oppressed, tortured and killed to enforce their submission just as women in Europe were held down.
