Provocative "First Take" panelist Stephen A. Smith was discussing the National Football League's decision to suspend Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice for two games, after he was indicted for allegedly physically assaulting his then-fiancee. The suspension was widely panned as lenient.
Smith said during his ESPN appearance that a man has "no business" putting his hands on a woman, but then went on to say that he was raised by women and encouraged the female members of his family to "make sure we dont do anything to provoke wrong actions."
"I think that just talking about what guys shouldnt do, we got to also make sure that you can do your part to do whatever you can do to try to make sure it doesnt happen
but at the same time, we also have to make sure that we learn as much as we can about elements of provocation, he added. Not that theres real provocation, but the elements of provocation, you got to make sure that you address them. Because weve got to do is do what we can to try to prevent the situation from happening in any way. And I dont think thats broached enough, is all Im saying."

(113,131 posts)is by being there. Men who batter women will come up with any excuse they can to absolve themselves of any wrongdoing.
I hope Mrs. Rice sees that video and leaves his violent ass. There is nothing like seeing your unconscious, battered body being dumped out on the sidewalk to be a wakeup call that the next time he will kill.

(42,496 posts)You get what he's saying here, don't you?
He's not telling men that they shouldn't do this shit. He's not out there advocating that abuse is wrong and violence towards women is never the answer.
No. He's 'educating' women, informing them that there are ways to PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING. And those ways are to TAKE CARE NOT TO PROVOKE A MAN.
Take care how? He doesn't say but I'm pretty sure it's 'shut up and put out'.
The 'damage' that he is referring to is not how much the woman physically and mentally suffered and will continue to suffer from all her life.
No, he's referring to the damaging of a man's image and career. That's it. That's what he worried about.
Women, don't piss off your man because if he hits you and the media finds out, he could get in trouble and it will be all your fault!
