(107,571 posts)those feminists who have fought for equal rights, not only denying that they might be considered "feminists" themselves, but actively disparaging or even attacking feminists. Feminists are clearly not a monolith, but at some point there is surely some area of broader agreement across (nearly) all women--surely???
It was sad to see the attacks on feminists and on Cali's original complaint on that thread--including by some DU women.
I have some hope for the miillenials to pick up the fight--hopefully also some of the younger generations to come

the rw, and men as a whole, men on our side, that will only embrace feminism or be our allies, if we do it their way. those men have done the job, on scaring our young women before the women finally say .... fuck it.
both my niece rejected feminist. took them only a couple years out in this world, and they are both holding the banner high.
that is why, on a progressive board, where there is at least the attempt to rally with women, we learn how even in our sphere we help to create the ugly of feminism that guarantees our young girls will reject it.
every time women speak up and we are called a prude. they help nail that coffin. it is clear they are trying to shame us with silence with our sexuality. what young woman wants to be labeled that. every time our young hear, a womans voice will result in her being called a prude, helps the process along.
every time we allow "hyperfeminism" or rad feminism to separate feminist, we are nailing the coffin.
evey time we hear a man play the third wave sex positive feminism good, and those sex negative feminists bad, is nailing that coffin.
du is simply a micro of the macro of the world we live in.
i understand the girls.
i do not understand the women so much. ok. i understand the women. they just flat out piss me off, lol. i am not talking about differing opinions. i am talking about active and purposeful destruction of feminism.

(22,165 posts)Should women just shut up ... we have been complaining for some time that DU had developed a very ugly under current and an often hostile tone toward women and women's issues. when it was brought out into the open .... many, many women came forward (as did men) to voice their outrage and acknowledge the undercurrent.
It is a significant problem here and it should be discussed in the sunlight!!!!

(19,964 posts)I mean that, really. Remember the names of those who made excuses for, rationalized or even defended what happened. Let them know we are watching and we aren't going to take this shit anymore.

(19,964 posts)I remember going over that particular exchange several times because I wasn't exactly sure what the poster was implying. At the very least it was sowing seeds of doubt, which was totally out of line. I would say more but it's probably best I stop at that.

(3,747 posts)and/or an unwillingness to admit they are wrong and change, as shown by a couple of posters in these threads.
If there's a bright side to this, it's that many of us who don't post very often read these threads and take notice. There are a lot of names I will remember now that they have shown their colors. I really do think that women and HOF in particular have the silent majority on their sides, despite many claims to the contrary.
