(15,393 posts)stunts for the past few days caught up to him.
writing an innocuous post, having it alerted on (most likely by a buddy) then when it passes the alert, change it. Then using his position as a host to do some more dirty work.

You have been very civil. I commend you for it.
Sheldon Cooper
(3,724 posts)manipulation of the jury system had a hand in it as well. The only thing that shocks me is that he was actually kicked out - I didn't expect that. So, I'll grave dance twice!
BainsBane
(55,447 posts)afer the post had already been alerted on? Is that what you mean?
Sheldon Cooper
(3,724 posts)It might have actually been an honest mistake, but given his other behavior I'm not willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on that. Besides, lol'ing at a gravely ill DUer is just a shitty, trollish thing to do.

He'd hop in and stink it up. He was on my list of about 5 guys who do that type of thing.
Good riddance.

(28,749 posts)We are currently in the process of planning changes to the way the Hosts forum works.
In the meantime, please remember that your job is to help DU run smoothly, not create unnecessary drama.
In some ways this job is not easy. We give you an SOP to enforce, but we also give you discretion to use your own judgment. Disagreement is expected. But in other ways, the job is easy: all you are trying to do is decide whether something should be locked or not.
There is no reason for threads in this forum to have 50, 60, 70 or more replies, and go on for multiple days, complete with long subthreads full of personal attacks and accusations of bias. It is just not necessary.
It may take us some time to complete the planned changes to the Hosts forum. In the meantime we expect all hosts to be able to work together as a team and not cause additional problems.
I hope it involves getting rid of hosts who act based on their views of particular posters rather than the SOP of the forum. The other problem is that with rules so arbitrarily enforced, it makes it very difficult to know what is and isn't allowed. Meta posts, for example. They are common place, yet for some reason they aren't okay if some people post them. It is irrational and impairs the running of the site. If they want to ban Meta posts, then ban them all and make it known.
Agschmid
(28,749 posts)Consistency is quite hard to get with 20 people of different backgrounds, opinions, and beliefs.
And yes sometimes we act differently because of recognized and even unrecognized bias towards posters.
It's frustrating as a member and as a host.
BainsBane
(55,447 posts)Were eye opening to say the least. It was clear that some weren't even trying to be fair.
Thanks for the update.
DURHAM D
(32,875 posts)From the beginning of DU3 a few hosts always control the process.
I was a GD Host early on and several I was serving with had previously been Moderators on DU2. In fact, for many months the old Moderators still had access to user profiles (real names, history of posting, email addresses, etc.) and they used that info to drive their own agendas. There was a real shit storm when everyone found out they had access and were still going back to DU2 to do their "research". Some Hosts still use "Moderator Rules" instead of the current instructions.
Anyway, there is a group of people who always want to be Hosts and many were previously Moderators. Keep in mind that on DU2 they did not cycle off - they were permanent positions.
What I am trying to explain is that many of the Host repeaters are very intimidating and someone hosting for the first time will just simply stop participating. It is made more difficult by the fact that all of the instruction from the admin are open to interpretation. Nothing is ever straight forward because they want Hosts to use their own best judgment but that is an invitation to the bullies (and garden variety know-it-alls) to have their way and intimidate other hosts.
The first step in fixing GD Hosts is to remove the constant repeaters and the admin need to moderator the Hosts for awhile and actually write some rules instead of gibberish.
Also, GD needs to stop being the Lounge and management needs to figure out a way to stop all the vanity posts by a couple of posters.
JI7
(91,277 posts)the racist comments throughout the years in themselves should have got him banned.
only surprised because that one had been allowed to get away with it for so long. but notice it took an admin going over what many hosts, juries etc had kept allowing.

(55,447 posts)for being a liar and needing to be PPR'd. A few people have PMed me to tell me a cryptic OP was about me. Don't know what my lies are supposed to be though.

(3,724 posts)That OP is really pretty creepy.
BainsBane
(55,447 posts)I knew she didn't like me, but I didn't why she's go that far.
Sheldon Cooper
(3,724 posts)Hence, my description of creepy.
BainsBane
(55,447 posts)She did attack me last night, and the week before, but that's par for the course. Is it because of what I posted in this thread about thinking about what would happen in I were PPR'd? I've noticed that some people look with great disdain on any sort of self reflection, as a post I once made about gun discussions bringing out the worst in me has been thrown in my face countless times. I still don't see why that is such a bad think to think about.
Bravenak warned me last night people would blame me for Quinnox stepping down as host, though I don't see how the dots connect on that one. Nor do I get what lies I supposedly have told.
Sheldon Cooper
(3,724 posts)Triumphantly chortled over something you said a hundred years ago, that they thought was such a clever trap for you. You were forthright and honest and addressed it head on which ruined all the fun. And yes I think your reflections about grave dancing were the catalyst for one of the creepier things I've seen around here.
BainsBane
(55,447 posts)And then saying you're right, I need to be more careful in my word choice?
I have to wonder if some of the current nonsense at the cave about me might have played a role.

She was accusing him of being my sock, or my being his, like I pose as a gay male NYer in my spare time. I should perhaps take it as a compliment. Justin is so much more civil and tactful than I, it's hard to imagine how anyone could think we were the same person. Still, he doesn't deserve that kind of treatment just for the crime of being online friends with me.
