Watertown's School and Municipal Election Draws Only 1,901 Voters

{KXLG – Watertown, SD} Official figures released by the City of Watertown Financing Department indicate a modest voter turnout for the School and Municipal Election held yesterday, June 17, 2025. Across all wards and rural areas, only 11% of active registered voters cast their ballots.

Of the 17,754 active registered voters in Watertown, 1,901 participated in the election. Ward A saw the highest voter engagement, at 17%, with 551 out of 3,153 active voters turning out. Following closely, Ward D recorded a 13% turnout, with 357 votes from its 2,841 active registered voters.

Wards B, C, and E, combined, showed a 10% turnout. Out of a total of 9,077 active voters in these wards, 870 individuals participated. The rural areas surrounding Watertown experienced the lowest voter engagement, with only 5% of their 2,683 active registered voters casting ballots, totaling 123

The overall turnout of 11% suggests a continued trend of lower participation in local school and municipal elections.
