Loner after Christmas check in

Hey fellow loners

How did your Holidays turn out? Mine was good, all things considered. My dad had a stroke last week and it's been pretty rough. Gonna be a long road of recovery.

I think all of my neighbors must've gotten guns for Christmas. It's sounded like a war zone since about 10 this morning. I decided to go burn some leaves ...... Hope they don't mind

Working on a good friend's campaign this year. She's running for state rep. We're completely inexperienced but we've got heart and good work ethic. Never know, we might mess around and win

Happy New Year to you gals and guys.

Sorry to hear about your dad's stroke. Is he ok?

Healing vibes on the way to both of you.

Sounds as if you have lovely neighbors...

The blood vessel didn't burst so he didn't need surgery. Paralyzed on his left side. He moved his finger yesterday. Trying to keep him in good spirits but he's so scared. I cannot imagine going through that.

Most of my neighbors are really good folks. There's one that'll blast his bass music which pisses me off, but I think someone complained so he turns it off at dark.

Today is something else though. The shooting always bothers me and my pets. Hopefully they all got to play with their toys and theyll put them away tmrw

He's gotten pretty ornery in his old age. Doing what I can while trying to motivate him.

Howling wind and torrential rain. (Finally over)

She said Saturday but I haven't heard back.

Some other day?

Tired from the cleaning anyway!

Sorry about your dad. Best wishes to all.

I am extremely flexible, so no big deal if they miss this weekend. I'll just have chicken scallopini more often than once this week.

I needed very much to re-org. Partly to help me plan a move back to civilization and partly to just find things here and be better organized.

I live on a ridge and windstorms really howl. I move to the back room and sleep on an air mattress when it does. It was nice to move back.

Beats me how I lost a pyrex baking dish I just had in my hands. It will show up.

Eventually.

You hear stories about men with their guns thinking it's a white-tail deer.

Not only is it polluting but is so much better to compost them. Insects lay their eggs or nest in leaf debris.

I grew up with a family of “burners” and it makes me sad.

It's me, Kay. Made it through the holidays without a problem. I work in a nursing home (as a social worker), so I was able to work on Christmas Day, rather than sitting around by myself, feeling like a freak.

Glad the holidays are over, looking forward to 2026 (except for, you know, the Trump thing).

Welcome to DU!

And to our little Loners group.

Glad you're here

PS Working in a nursing home is hard work. I was a CNA years ago and it takes a special heart to do it.
