People on Earth would be witnessing the shortest day in record since experts began tracking the rotation of the planet in 1973. On average, Earth completes one full rotation on its axis in exactly 86,400 seconds from the Suns point of view. However, record speed was achieved by our planet in 2020, which could be broken in the summer of 2025, according to Time and Date. This speed was measured using atomic clocks introduced in the 1950s, and the variation in the number of milliseconds was known as the length of day (LOD). The shortest day ever was -1.66 ms on July 5, 2024, and we could get close to this in 2025 around July 9, July 22, and August 5.
