Holy Water recipes

I seem to remember one of those Holy Water cups as seen in the last panel. It was probably at my Grandma's house. You woul buy a small bottle at church. What a racket.

I remember my mom paid a couple of Franks for some Holy Water from Lourdes. That cured me of my toenail fungus. Now if I had me some Holy Chrism, why I bet I could defeat communism.

do the prayers bestow magical properties to the water?
Or does God or angels or somesuch follow the water around to make sure it is jworking?
