Until the 1960's improvements in birth control, in the US.

The Pill changed things a lot. But the Church was slow to adapt.

And now ignore their Church on some such things.

Unfortunately they still try to follow many other destructive religious doctrines.

Meanwhile the abortion issue is at a critical point today.
