Soccer/Football
Related: About this forumWho else is watching World Cup?
I've been laid out with a horrible cold, so I'm using that as an excuse. I'll usually watch soccer, or as I prefer to call it, futbol, if I can get a chance, so this is fun for me, especially before it boils down to the "favorites". I like seeing the teams that haveessentially NO chance, especially if they can put up a good fight ar even score against a stronger team, the way Curaçao did while getting clobbered by Germany yesterday. I found the most exciting match to be Scotland and Haiti, which Scotland won 1-0 in a great defensive battle by both teams; I probably appreciate those sorts of games because my daughter was a defender for most of her 12 years as a player so I know how the game works. (PS: Scotland plays a bit dirty, but don't tell me mam, OK?)

(14,759 posts)so if you have cable, you're there. The rest are on FS1, and if you have streaming, you can get those in English on Tubi. I found that out by accident when I couldn't manage the Fox sports (I'm a dunce at Xfinity Streaming) and was watching Telemundo and my husband came alog and asked me why I was watching them in Spanish and I said because I couldnt fiugre out Xfinity so he set it up for me.

(4,633 posts)I played and coached some and have always loved the game. It introduced me to the International Center in college and I made friends from all over the world. Iran too.
Since I hold the 45 minute half sacrosanct I refuse to watch on Fox. The announcers on Telemundo are more intelligent and it helps me zero in on my Spanish, too. Ill turn it off if Im forced to watch an ad during a half of soccer.
But if you like underdogs, watch Spain v. Cape Verde, from this morning. And Türkiye was supposed to clobber Australia but they lost 2-0.
Id say the biggest surprise so far is the US. That win against Paraguay is the best weve EVER played in my lifetime. I love our players: Adams, McKennie, Richards, Jedi, Balogun, Tillman, Ream, our Captain and Pulisic. This is a special group with a special coach and it seems we have the intangibles on our side.

(14,759 posts)but I can't follow anyone who talks that fast! Those guys make my head spin, and I can follow most people.
I was a bit surprised at the Saudis. Their defense is spectacular, and if too many expect to get past it, well, they might want to think again. It was a bit scary. Iran surprised me a little too, but because I had to work today, I couldn't see the rest of that game. They were leading when I went to bed.

(7,437 posts)30 minutes to England Croatia, which should be good.
We can go to several Biergartens if we want to watch with fans of the teams playing.
That is really fun.

(5,896 posts)i am dealing with lots of personal issues/dramas but when i can I try to keep informed....love the game and rooting for my team even from a distance.
I just got a recap online with the group competitions and so far so good. The heavy favorites of course: Brazil and Morocco are up again soon. Then the usual heavyweights: Portugal and Argentina. Messi is still as fine as he always is. Ronaldo is a tank and of course Brazil is saving Neymar but they have great regular players as well...
My favorite: Brazil. they are contenders for the hexa and have been for 20 years...... Morocco and Messi are in their way right now. Ronaldo would love a chance to defeat them too. In any case lots of anxious moments ahead......Lots of anxiety ahead...Oh and France is just waiting for their chance....
PS glad to find this little sweet forum....I come here every 4 years....
