Enhanced Games runners beef after steroid-free sprinter wins
LAS VEGAS Two sprinters got into a war of words after their 100-meter race at the PED-friendly Enhanced Games when the non-steroid-using athlete won.
Fred Kerley was one of the four "non-enhanced" athletes competing at the Enhanced Games in Las Vegas on Sunday, a tech-backed athletic competition that allowed its participants to take performance-enhancing drugs banned by all major sports governing bodies.
The stipulation was that these "enhancements" had to be FDA-approved. But the organizers also insisted that athletes were not required to take PEDs to compete, which is the path that Kerley took ahead of the 100-meter sprint, where his goal was to smash Usain Bolt's long-standing world record of 9.58 seconds.
Despite spending the run-up to the games talking up his ability to break the record, he came up short, finishing the race with a time of 9.97 seconds. Still, Kerley took a metaphorical victory lap against his competition. Immediately after the other runners crossed the finish line, Kerley could be heard on the livestream repeating the line, Yall gotta do better than that, multiple times. He then started his post-race interview with the exact same sentiment, and even chided their performance enhancement.
