the walls drift even closer as the rooms grow smaller
wander from room to room search for what has gone
a shadow of the missing flitting in the corners of eyes
slowly turn look up and down yet never find the ghost
an empty space of a certain size sitting on old chairs
echo rings grow fainter and ears are straining to hear
a scent appears and wafts away pulling at the strings
not quite identifiable almost dear and still tantalizing
a heart beats faster breaths come in gasps and rasps
at night a touch is dreamed and felt yet awakens gone
footsteps up the stairs racing expectations ascending
to want and wish to hope and to pray to lose and find
discard the scraps each mote the blessing of the holy
until all is empty all is gone and it is the time to depart

Today's was especially deep and meaningful as I can relate to the tease of memories past, and the emptiness that has replaced them in my life limitations.
