Nightmare

Night falls once again
With thoughts scrambled
Of tomorrow
A day quite tragic
In its global impact
What will happen?

Through the choking haze
I see the fires
Of burning houses,
Bombed out schools,
Buildings smashed
Beyond belief

Lines of the innocent
Forced forward by soldiers
Cruel hidden faces
Behind plastic masks
Pushed onward to buses
Taking them to Forever

A room full of cowards
Who will do nothing to stop it
Just empty words
Self-righteous bellowing
From the Leaders
Brainless and cruel

What can I do?
As I hear a knock at the door
Then pounding, then cracking
As the entry is made
And the plastic-faced soldiers
Seize me for no reason

--

This time, no awakening
The nightmare is real
Not from my sleep
Not in my dreams
But reality for all of us
In the dreadful months to come.
