I fell on my head again last night redux

I don't mean that I fell again, but I wanted to make sure I could respond to your wonderful advice (just ordered a Big Alex cane, btw). It's comforting to know that I'm in the right place: I was concerned that I wasn't reading about the terrible things old age is doing to me, and while I'm sorry they're happening to so many of you, too, it's very comforting to me. I am especially awed by those of you who are going through this crap while living alone--my hat is off to you.

I am fine now. I am going to move the bright nightlights we have in our guest bedrooms into our room and the bathroom. I would leave a regular lamp burning there, but there's no place to put it. I've ordered a special cane with a sort of flashlight in its handle to keep upstairs.

We have grab bars all over the place. They don't help much if you can't see them, though.

I love you all. Please stay alive, keep all your marbles, and be able to type at least until I shuffle off this mortal coil. I need you guys.

I'd never heard of the Big Alex cane. Ty for sharing.

I have eight of these in the lower plugs all over my main walking paths in my house. I just make sure none will shine at me when I go to bed. They are bright enough to give me visibility, for example, all the way down my hall.

6. I do, too. I've seen it called "theatre lighting" and I'm quite impressed with it.

I can spend all evening in my house without turning on any of the room lights. They give you enough light to move around and function but are very unintrusive and cheap to operate.

Which have magnets in the back and metal plates to connect to the walls wherever you want.
I haven't used the metal plates, just put them on shelves, etc.
I haven't had to recharge them in months.

I also have not had to reach for a lamp when getting up at night.
I wish I had found them sooner.

5. A suggestion, perhaps those 3-way lightbulbs, for hallway lighting, elsewhere, w/ 3 settings, very low, medium, and

regular brightness when you flip the switch an appropriate number of times. I have these lightbulbs in my hallways, other places and they are handy to leave on the lowest setting during the evening hours/midnight hours.

7. Also you might consider a light weight, foldable walker.

They are more sturdy. I use mine when I go to my early Aerobics water cleans. That has really improved my balance. You can do more in water than land.

Most Advantage Plans pay for it and will even provide transportation if you need it. I drive but see many using it.

Afraid to be upstairs by myself until last night. I received my I've fallen and can't get up equipment today, and it's made me a lot more confident. I'm waiting for a cane with built-in flashlight which I'm just going to have to learn to use. We moved around nightlights yesterday, and that helps.

I am a brisk, take-charge-and-get-it-done person! What happened?

Thank you for asking about me--I'm fine, really. I just have to get used to being old. Dammit.
